Two straps across the upper and no other fastening: the Rivo is a double monk, done entirely in navy.
Navy painted calf covers the whole shoe, so the straps register as shape rather than as contrast. The sole is leather with buttons rubber injections set into it, which puts grip under a bottom that would otherwise be slick. The last is the Zurigo, rounded at the toe for the traditional English look. Every pair is handmade.
The double monk is the modern reading of a classic, elegant shape, and navy is the version that stays useful longest. It goes under tailoring without announcing itself and survives a day that ends somewhere less formal than it started. Grey or tan trousers suit it best.
