Caval Single Monk in Herringbone and Black

Three surfaces, all of them dark, and a red sole under the lot. The Caval spends its contrast where it cannot be seen from above.

Herringbone sartorial, black painted calf and black pebble grain divide the upper between woven, smooth and grained. Red calf leather lines the inside and the sole is plain red Goodyear leather. It sits on the Monti last, whose slightly square toe gives the shoe a firmer outline than a rounded one would. Handmade throughout, so no two pairs are the same.

One strap meeting a buckle is the whole fastening, and monkstraps became popular because that is comfortable and quietly noticeable. This one is quiet from the front and not quiet at all from the side. Plain dark trousers; the shoe has enough going on.
