One cloth, top to bottom. The Aesop is a double monk cut entirely from jeans sartorial, which is not what this shape usually wears.
The upper is that cloth and nothing else, with two straps crossing it. Red calf leather lines the inside and the sole is plain cognac leather, so both hidden faces of the shoe carry a warmer colour than the outside does. It is built on the Zurigo last, rounded at the toe for the traditional English look. Handmade.
A double monk is the modern twist on a formal shape, and this is the most casual version of that twist you are likely to find. It sits closer to a weekend than to a wedding. Wear it with plain trousers and let the cloth be the surprise.
