Patent is the shiniest thing a formal shoe can be made of, and the Hugh commits to it across the whole upper.
Black patent covers the shoe, broken only by the single strap and the buckle it meets. Red calf leather lines the inside. Underneath is a plain cognac Goodyear leather sole, so the welt and the warm colour both sit where they are not immediately seen. Every pair is handmade.
A single monkstrap is comfortable and became a staple because it draws attention without doing anything obvious, and patent removes the without. This is an evening shoe and makes no pretence otherwise. Black trousers, and nothing else that shines.
